Capturing the Vibe: WordCamp NextGen Tegal 2023 in Photos
So, on October 22, 2023, I found myself at the KHAS Tegal Hotel, pulling double duty. Not only was I volunteering as a web developer, but I also had my camera glued to my hand, capturing all the key moments as the event’s photographer. The whole “WordPress for Enterprise” theme brought in this fresh vibe – a full-day workshop, keynotes, live demos… and seriously, all that needed to be visually immortalized to tell the full story (you can see some of it on tegal.wordcamp.org).

My Lens on the Workshop & Keynote Experience
As the photographer, I was just snapping away, trying to get the real feel of the workshop. I got shots of attendees seriously listening to the speakers, those direct interactions, and even some close-ups of the screen demos and devices. For me, these photos aren’t just memories; they’re solid visual proof of the learning value and how much the community was engaged.
Capturing All the Interactions & Networking
When you check out the gallery, you’ll totally see those candid moments: folks just chatting it up, close-up discussions, and even the informal after-party vibes (yeah, that’s all on tegal.wordcamp.org). I think this really highlights the human side of the event—something that’s super hard to get across with just text.

Light & Composition: Professionalism on the Fly
I really tried to nail the subject placement during the keynote, shooting from strategic angles and using the natural light as much as possible. It was all about balancing the audience, the background, and the presentation slides. All those technical details like depth of field and framing? They just show I really know my way around a camera and was putting those skills to good use.
The Photos as My Visual Story
All these photos are going to be pretty important. They’ll be:
- Official WordCamp Tegal documentation material.
- Content for the official #WCTGL site/Instagram gallery (you know, x.com, twitter.com).
- References for local media coverage and sponsors.
The Sweet Synergy of Web Dev + Photography
One of the cool things was that right after the sessions, I could pretty much jump straight into uploading or getting the photos ready for the site and blog, thanks to my web dev skills. That’s a huge plus – it meant quick, quality content, ready to go, without needing to bring in another team. It just flowed!
Wrapping It Up
Honestly, my contribution as a volunteer photographer felt pretty crucial. I really focused on capturing:
- The learning atmosphere (from the Keynote to the Workshop).
- All the community interactions.
- Those professional visual details.
And then, adding my web development abilities to the mix, I felt like I delivered really comprehensive documentation—from that initial camera click all the way to the final publication. It made for a complete, relevant, and impactful coverage for the WordPress community here in Tegal.
Hope you like hearing about my experience! And if you’re curious, I’m happy to share the Flickr gallery where you can see all the shots.
