A Fond Farewell to Neofetch: End of an Era

Hey everyone,

So, I just learned that Neofetch has officially shut down. Honestly, my terminal feels a bit quieter today.

I know it’s just a small CLI tool. But for years, this simple script was my personal greeting with every fresh Linux install. That satisfying moment when you type neofetch and suddenly your rig’s specs and distro logo appear on screen? Pure magic. It never was required, but it added personality and flair.

Why It Meant Something to Me

Neofetch was the perfect icebreaker. Without it, sharing a setup screenshot felt incomplete. It framed our systems like digital art and sparked conversations about themes, fonts, and distro pride (yes, Arch users, we see you). It celebrated the uniqueness of each machine, whether you were on a lightweight potato or a Threadripper powerhouse.

A Gentle Farewell

Time moves forward. Dylan Araps, the creator, moved on long ago (shoutout to pfetch). Neofetch had already been fading unofficially, and now it’s finally retired. No drama, no resentment—just appreciation.

What Next?

I’m probably switching to fastfetch or hyfetch (which brings the rainbow themes like Neofetch). Still, I’ll miss typing those nine letters and watching my OS smile back.

One Last Boot

A farewell salute from my system:

Thanks for the memories.

To Neofetch: thanks for making our terminals feel like a home.

To Dylan: deep respect for what you built. And to this community: keep customizing, tinkering, and sharing those beautiful desktops—ASCII penguins optional but encouraged.

Neofetch may be gone, but the vibe lives on.
